Blood Statuses

Pure-blood
Pure-blood is the term applied to wizards and witches who have no Muggle blood, Muggle borns, half-bloods or mixed blood at all in their genealogical pedigree. Pure-bloods are consequently extremely rare. (Although, considering the rarity of pure blood every pure-blood family is bound to have one or two ancestors of at least mixed blood somewhere in their family tree. But that is naturally a well-kept secret.)


Mixed Blood
Mixed blood refers to those wizards and witches with magical parents but have known muggle blood somewhere in the family tree. Half-bloods and Mixed bloods are the most common wizard blood, far outnumbering pure-bloods and Muggle-borns.

One pure-blood parent, one half- or mixed blood parent = Mixed blood

One mixed blood parent, one half-blood parent = Mixed blood

Two mixed blood parents = Mixed blood


Half-blood
Half-blood refers to those wizards and witches who have magic and Muggle or muggleborn parents. Half-bloods out number pure bloods.

One pure-, mixed or half-blood parent, one Muggle parent = Half-blood

One pure-, mixed or half-blood parent, one Muggle-born parent = Half-blood

Two half-blood parents = Half-blood


Muggle-born
Muggle-born is the term applied to wizards and witches who come from non-magical families.


Squibs
Squib is the term applied to a child who is born of magical parents, but who develops no magical abilities. They are considered to be the opposite of Muggle-born wizards/witches.


Mixed species
Some wizards are the products of unions between humans and magical creatures of human or near-human intelligence.
