Ali was sitting at her desk in the front of the room. On the board was the day’s lesson. Once students would come in she will go more in-depth—if they have questions that is.
What is magical ability? Most wizards speak of magical ability as an inherent talent that appears in humans in various degrees. There are two views to magical ability: magical ability is genetically linked and/or that the talent can be cultivated to focus the power of the wizard.
Magical ability being genetic would suggest that the wizarding talent gene is recessive (or linked to more than one gene, or some other explanation), if apparently magic-less people produce a wizard and wizards rarely produce anything but more wizards. Squibs and near-Squibs use such things as Kwikspell courses in the attempt to make up for what powers they lack, but generally not with much result. This also suggests again that training is meant to focus and polish magical people's powers, not bring them into being where they did not exist before.
Hmwk:
1. What are two views to magical ability?
2. Why do you think muggles can produce witches but pure-bloods seem to be losing the capability?
3. What do Squibs and near squibs use to make up for the powers they do not have?
